Reading Quiz/Blog Post for November 9

The impact of reading the stories in the narrative style conscious, is the feeling that you were experiencing the events. In reading the descriptions that the author shows in the text, we see the impact that each event has on him.

Clearly the author wants to keep a detailed account of all events, as accurate as possible, with the intention of converting the text into a historical narrative. We can determine who your audience is interested in knowing the historical events that occurred in the Siege of Warsaw. The author decided to tell these historical facts and giving less importance to your thoughts or feelings because they felt that these would be of greater significance after the time pass.

On page 167, Lewin Enters His diary for the first time with His Own Thoughts and feelings. What do you make of This Moment?

The sensation one feels when first introduced Lewin their feelings and thoughts is that he is really upset by the events and express what they feel is a form of relief.

Open Post

Today we need to publish an open post. I decide to post a fragment of my reflective essay about the genre transformation project, in specific, the excerpt related to the genre Play.

GENRE TRANSFORMATIONS

       1

In the case of genre Play, I decided to follow the rules regarding the format of the dialogues, as well as highlight the conflict between the characters. An example of this is that at first the Prince asked the Fox to drop the tree to play with him because he is boring. The Fox's answer is:

The Fox: I'm sorry, I can not leave. Nor Can we play, it Would be dangerous for you. I am not tamed.”

In this example it is evident as one of the characters want something, while the other does not want. This difference of opinion results in a tension between the characters that reflects the conflict. Then, we see how this conflict is increased when the Fox decides to play with the prince, and now the conflict is that each character has a different vision of the future and the things they want to do.

2

Writing the play, I wanted to capture the sense of innocence of the Little Prince, as well as make clear references to the friendship and bond between the characters. To explain the innocence, I use the recurring questions from the Little Prince to any aspect that the Fox describe. This attitude is the same that we can notice in children at an early age, when they begin to discover the world and all it seems that encloses an amazing mystery. In relation to the friendship between the characters, I wanted to create an analogy between the meaning of friendship and a fire. First, I introduced this element (which is not present in the original play) at the beginning of the dialogue when the prince says:

The Little Prince: You're so beautiful, You have red hair, you look like a little flame escaping from a fire. Can you make a fire? Sometimes when I'm cold, I try to, But my hands are so cold I can hold the logs hardly. Then I huddle in my coat and begin to imagine That I am sitting in front of a bonfire.

Little Prince and the Fox: Synopsys

Synopsis

The Prince is looking across several planets the perfect flower for his garden and visit the Fox. At the first time, the prince is amazed by the beauty of the fox, who explains the prince that he can not play because he is not tamed. The prince is interested in knowing the meaning of the word tame and the fox explains that it is bonding, doing this a relationship of friendship between men, which is the main theme of the fable.images.jpeg
Fox explains that among them there is no relationship at that time and that the Little Prince is only one person among thousands and that neither needs each other, but adds that if the Little Prince will then tamed him, then, they will need each other. By understanding that means tame, and create relationships, build a relationship and make the other person need to oneself.

Then the Fox has expressed the interest to be tamed by the prince, showing that needs a friend. But the Little Prince says that he does not have time, because he need "Find friends and meet a lot of things" which makes it impossible to create the loops. The Fox then explains to the prince that the problem of men is precisely this, because they do not want to cultivate friendships and never have time to create real relationships. This is perhaps one of the main points of the story, because it explains how man feels more enjoyable modern consumerism or buy things already made, unlike the real relations, which are born of time and dedication.

Little Prince and the Fox (Excerpt)

Robert Alexander

Based in the original text of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
The stage is illuminated. At center stage is a large tree in the background are great mountains. Enter the Prince on stage in a gesture of seeking something.

The Little Prince: Oh Gosh, I think I've lost again. My rose, the fairest of them all must be around here, I have to find it. But everything is so unfamiliar to me, if only I had one person to ask.
The tree in the middle of the stage begins to shake.
Fox: I'm here. (Says the fox, although we can not see it)
The Little Prince: Who said that?
Fox: It's me. Looking hidden from the men. Do you see a hunter nearby?
The Little Prince: No, I do not see anyone. Sal so I can see you. I'm bored and want to play with someone.
Fox: I'm sorry, I cannot leave. Nor can we play, it would be dangerous for you. I am not tamed.
The Little Prince: Dangerous? What do you mean?
Fox: Yes, you could get hurt.
The Little Prince: I do not understand. Why I could get hurt? Go forth now and so I explain what it means to tame and we can play around.
Fox: That is precisely the danger that we get to tame each other.
The Fox comes under the tree. Run quickly across the stage. The Prince begins to haunt him and laughing.
The Little Prince: You're so beautiful, you have red hair, you look like a little flame escaping from a fire. Can you make a fire? Sometimes when I try I have cold, but I have my hands so cold I can hardly hold the logs. Then I shelter in coat and begin to imagine in my mind that I am sitting in front of a bonfire.
The Fox: The things men are indifferent to me. I know only hunt chickens. Do you see here?
The Little Prince: Chickens? I do not see any.
Fox: It's a shame. The hens are for me, so the fire is for you.
The Little Prince: Something very special Oh?
The Fox: It is. Something very special.
The Little Prince: If so, then you should tell it more special for me is my flower. She is unique.
The Fox: She has tamed you?
The Little Prince: Taming?
The Fox: Yes. Do not know what it is?
The Little Prince: Not very well, but I heard you say right now that you mention it and now I understand. Taming ¿is when something you like?
Fox: It's more than that. It's when something is unique to you. How many other roses you know?
The Little Prince: Many, of different sizes and with more or less odor than mine.
Fox: But you love that one flower. Is not it?
The Little Prince: It is. Only her.
Fox: So you have tamed.

Gucci and "School for Africa"

Today we have the option to publish an open post. I decide to talk about the Gucci advertisement with Jennifer Lopez.

The image presented by Gucci intended to promote children's clothing. The scene captured by the image, takes place on the beach and is feature by the artist Jennifer Lopez and her two children.

The Gucci company has shown a famous person playing with their children on the beach while wearing clothing company. The tone of the image intended to be familiar and supposedly normal environment in which a mother interacts with her children. This image is promoted to level printed (in magazines or newspapers) and in digital in gucci.com The hearing is intended is the upper middle class can buy this brand and also can identify with the lifestyle of the artist used in advertising.

The artist Jennifer Lopez is quite famous in the Latin and Anglo music world, and the company intends to use this image as the authority to promote generosity. The intent of this campaign is to give a percentage of profits to the project called "Schools for Africa"

  1. Gucci´s campaign "Schools for Africa" unsuccessfully make its achieves its purpose of promoting generosity in favor of the children of Africa.
  2. The image appears as a major figure Jennifer Lopez and not children.
    1. The artist appears in the center and a leading figure and looking at camera.
    2. Children look elsewhere and be seen without visual force in advertising.
  3. Jennifer Lopez does not have a maternal connotation.
    1. The connotation of the artist is sexual or erotic.
    2. The look of the model attempts to appeal to erotic sense.
  4. The mother does not interact with the children.
    1. Children do not seem to play with the mother but only be present in the picture.
    2. There is no physical contact between mother and children.
Gucci advertising that is intended to promote generosity, unsuccessfully achieved its mission to ensure that consumers can identify with and can contribute to the cause. The model seems to pose for a fashion magazine as if she were alone in the picture and there is no relation to children or a mother or relative gesture between them.

Rough Draft in Outline: Scott Adam's "Dilbert"

Robert Santana
Rough Draft
Comic/Dilbert

The image is about a character named Dilbert who is talking with his mother in their house. The scene takes place in three frames. And the mother makes references to an email that she send this day to Bill Gates saying something positive about the Microsoft competitor.

Dilbert is a character related to the world of computing and this comic is used to criticize or satirize some aspects of this world. It is addressed to the public that understands technology and information and is intended to create humorous situations from ironic elements of this environment.

Ethos: The comic strip Dilbert is about and who almost always has a more balanced vision of the computer world. This comic is well known and published in hundreds of newspapers worldwide, as well as electronically through the portal.

Logos: The fact that an elderly woman has resorted to an advanced task to send a message to the most powerful man in the world computer does not have much logic. Nor the answer he makes to this message.
Pathos: There is some anger in the mother's message, and fear in response to this message Bill Gates.

  1. Scott Adam's “Dilbert” to successful makes his argument that  the competition between Linux and Windows is disproportional.
  2. Even a older person can use Linux.
    1. In the first, Dilbert's mother tells him she has done something with the keyboard of the PC.
    2. The mother seems to be a normal user. It represent that even a normal user can operate Linux operative system.
    3. When the Dilbert´s mother said that she was using Linux, Dilbert made a normal expression.
  3. The competition between Windows and Linux is similar to David and Goliath.
    1. In the second frame mother tells him she has repeatedly send a message to Bill Gates saying "Linux Rules."
    2. The mother is a normal person, not an advance user or a people of business and she decide to send a direct message to an big company like Microsoft.
    3. Dilbert show an expression of surprise, because he knows that it can represent a bad reaction from Microsoft.
  4. Microsoft reacts in a disproportional way to individual users.
    1. At the third frame we see Bill Gates as if in an operations center saying: "Launch the Competition keeper Missiles."
    2. In the third frame we see a Bill Gates in a center of operation, giving orders to employees.
    3. We see a big organization reacting with missiles to a simple email message.
  5. Scott Adams shows Microsoft as a evil organization
    1. Bill Gates doesn’t answer the email with another email.
    2. The image in Bill Gates in a control center is related to movies of science fiction like Star Wars.
    3. Bill Gates show no flexible to comments in favor of the competition.
  6. Linux users think that Windows is bad for Linux
    1. The mother choose Microsoft instead of Apple or other companies.
    2. The mother send thousands of emails to an specific person.
    3. The message and the way of sending shows a certain adverse attitude.
    1. Conclusion: In the computer world of Linux distributions are related to an advanced knowledge of operating systems. This is what makes comic that Dilbert's mother said that she used the system to send a large amount of emails. Second factor that makes the picture hilarious is to see how the president of a huge company cares about this fact and respond from a control center that refers to science fiction. This is not a fair competition between the two operating systems. We see how Linux has charisma of certain independent groups. In another hand, Windows is the product of a big company, Microsoft.
